READING: We began our new reading theme about weather which is titled, “Sunshine and Raindrops.” We are exploring snowy weather and reading many books about snow. We are working on segmenting words after we listened to our theme poem “First Snow.” We can practice this at home, too. Say any word that has 3-4 sounds in the word and have your child say the sounds they hear at the beginning, middle, and end. This helps every child become a terrific reader!!

HOMEWORK: LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Ss” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, January 30th. Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes. Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “S” and bring it to school.

MATH: We love measuring!!! We can measure how long or tall any object is and record our measurements! Give your child many objects to measure and they will show you how! We are also really good at comparing measurements and putting them in order from shortest to longest! We also did a good job on the cumulative test over topics 1-8! That was a long assessment!

HANDWRITING: We are continuing to work on writing our “magic c” lowercase letters. We are learning to write them between two lines. The hardest part is to make sure our letters are sitting on the bottom line. It will become easier as we keep praciticing.

SCIENCE: We are quite the scientists! We have learned some big words this week with some of our experiments! See if your child can tell you what these words are: question, hypothesis, test, record, observation, and conclusion.

IT’S THE 100th Day on Monday, January 30th! Your child will be involved in many fun activities on Monday! We are going to all of the kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classrooms to explore 100! We are also going to make a 100 day snack. Please have your child count out 100 pieces of a snack to bring to school in a baggy with their name on it! Some snack items might include pretzels, small marshmallows, small chocolate chips, Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs, Fruit Loops, Cheez-its, cheese balls, m & m’s, Cheetos, raisins, or miniture cookies. Any thing small will work to make a big gorp mix! Remember: NO PEANUT ITEMS!!
