READING:  We finished our spring unit and are now getting ready for our farm unit.  We will be learning about what is on a farm and the different animals you would find on a farm.

MATH:  We have finished our unit on Time. We learned how to tell time to the hour and what happens during the day and at night. Ask your student the to tell you the time to the hour.  Our next unit of study will be about the calander. We will learn about the order of a calander.

HANDWRITING:  We need to keep practicing theupper and lower case letters.  We know how to make all the lower case letters. Have your child help make the grocery list or write letters to friends and family.

SCIENCE:  We have started our new science unit this week.  We are learning about snails, isopods, worms and fish. The kids are very excited about all the new “pets” we have in the room. 
 
The annual Dia de los Niños/Dia de los Libros (the Day of the Child/the Day of the Book) is planned at the Marshalltown Public Library on Friday, April 29 from 4-5:30 p.m.  Some of the exciting things to do are Face Painting, Loteria (A bingo like game) with prizes, make a Skippyjon Jones mask, see William and Blackjack the dragon, and enjoy puppet play with Frank Ocasio of Grandpa’s Puppets.

Dairy Farm Field Trip:  The kidos are looking forward to the field trip to the dairy farm.  We have all the adults we need to make this trip an exciting and educational time. 

Parent Visitors: to ensure a minimum disruption to learning please our visitor rules:
1. Always check in at the office and get a visitors badge.
2. If it is the end of the day please wait for your child at the appropriate outside exits.
3. Visitors should wait by the office and your child will be brought down to you.
4. We are available for conferences regarding your child’s progress before school, 8:00 to 8:25 a.m., and after school, 3:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., by appointment on school days.

Please make sure your child has gym shoes with them each gym day!  We know with the hot weather many of the kids want to wear sandals or “flip flops”, but the kids need to have a pair of gym shoes to put on for gym class.  Gym class has lots of running and sharp movement type activities.  If the children are not wearing tennis shoes they run the risk of getting injured or falling and injuring another student

*The different sounds the letters make in words.
* Recognizing Money and its value
*Ways to make a new friend.
*Different words which can be made with the “at”, “an”, “ig”, “ox”, “it”, “op”, “ot”,”ug”,“ut” and “en” families.
*Have your child help make out the grocery list and let them write down the items.
*Tying shoes.
*Recognizing the numbers from 1-20.
*Keep working on recognizing the 25 Kindergarten words.

Dia de los Niños/Dia de los Libros is planned at the Marshalltown Public Library

READING:  Our new unit is called Spring is here.  We will be learning about what happens in the spring, planting plants, observing our garden to watch the changes and talking about animal babies.

HOMEWORK:  LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Wh” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, April 18.  Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes.  Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “Wh” and bring it to school.

MATH:  We are finishing our unit on money. We learned the value of the penny, nickel, and dime. Ask your student the value of the coins.  Our next unit of study will be about time. We will learn about activities that take more time and less time. We will also learn about clocks and times of the day.

READING:  We just finished our reading unit on transportation.  Our new unit is called Spring is here.  We will be learning about what happens in the spring, planting plants, observing our garden to watch the changes and talking about animal babies.

HOMEWORK:  LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Th” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, February 28.  Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes.  Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “Th” and bring it to school.

MATH:  We are learning about money.  We are learning the value and the names of the coins. Ask your child if they can name the 4 coins and the value of each. You can have your child practice finding the value of different combinations of coins.
