READING:  Our new unit is called Spring is here.  We will be learning about what happens in the spring, planting plants, observing our garden to watch the changes and talking about animal babies.

HOMEWORK:  LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Wh” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, April 18.  Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes.  Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “Wh” and bring it to school.

MATH:  We are finishing our unit on money. We learned the value of the penny, nickel, and dime. Ask your student the value of the coins.  Our next unit of study will be about time. We will learn about activities that take more time and less time. We will also learn about clocks and times of the day.

HANDWRITING:  We need to keep practicing the lower case letters.  We know how to make all the lower case letters. Have your child help make the grocery list or write letters to friends and family.

SCIENCE:  We have started our new science unit this week.  We are learning about snails, isopods, worms and fish. The kids are very excited about all the new “pets” we have in the room.

Kinderblog update: The blog has been updated with the 25 Kindergarten words and the kindergarten word families we will be working on. http://fisher-kindergarten.blogspot.com/ Come check us out.

Parent Visitors: to ensure a minimum disruption to learning please our visitor rules:
1. Always check in at the office and get a visitors badge.
2. If it is the end of the day please wait for your child at the appropriate outside exits.
3. Visitors should wait by the office and your child will be brought down to you.
4. We are available for conferences regarding your child’s progress before school, 8:00 to 8:25 a.m., and after school, 3:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., by appointment on school days.

Please make sure your child has gym shoes with them each gym day!  We know with the hot weather many of the kids want to wear sandals or “flip flops”, but the kids need to have a pair of gym shoes to put on for gym class.  Gym class has lots of running and sharp movement type activities.  If the children are not wearing tennis shoes they run the risk of getting injured or falling and injuring another student

Things to work on with your child:
*The different sounds the letters make in words.
* Recognizing Money and its value
*Ways to make a new friend.
*Different words which can be made with the “at”, “an”, “ig”, “ox”, “it”, “op”, “ot”,”ug”,“ut” and “en” families.
Have your child help make out the grocery list and let them write down the items.
*Tying shoes.
*Recognizing the numbers from 1-20.
*Keep working on recognizing the 25 Kindergarten words.
