READING: Our color unit has been so much fun! It has been exciting watching everyone dress up in the color of the day! We made rainbows and made a book about our favorite color. We have also been working on reading the kindergarten words. We should know: I, a, go, to, me, in, red, see, we, my. For fun at home, go to www.spellingcity.com . Click on the button that says “Find A List.” In the middle of the computer screen, type in the name Cynthia Eggers to search for a list by a teacher’s name. Have fun playing the games! We also added another color! It will be gray day on Friday, October 29th. Thank you!

LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Ii” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, November 1. Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes. Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “I.”

MATH: We reviewed the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We took Topic test 4 earlier this week. We also are taking a cumulative test over the first 4 topics. We will sort, discuss positional words, and make patterns to help us take this test.

HANDWRITING: We are still praciticing making frog jump letters and corner starting letters using chalkboards, magna doodles, and mats. Remember: all letters start at the top! Keep working on F, E, D, P, B, R, N, and M. We are getting better at making L, K, H, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z which are corner starting letters.

SCIENCE: We are continuing to look at the four seasons of the year! The colors of the leaves are beautiful! We have been graphing the crazy weather this week, too.

Kindergarten October Projects

We made some Pumpkins for our rooms.

We tore paper to make our apple pictures.

We painted paper and then we tore them up to make leaves for our fall trees.  We love to notice how the leaves change in the fall.

We made our "All About Me" flowers.  We included colors of the clothes we were wearing and our favorite colors. We love to show our quality work on the internet!

Punch Cards

Each student has received a "Pawsitive Punch Card." During the month of October, every time students get "caught" doing something positive, they will receive a punch. When a student fills up a whole card, Mrs. Vopava will be notified and will send a postcard home to you, the parents! Filled cards will also be displayed in our hallway. At Fisher, we want to focus on the positive things kids are doing to encourage them to continue on with positive behavior! You can talk to your child about how receiving a punch makes them feel and what their plan is to keep doing positive things! :)

Spelling City

We are working on reading our 25 kindergarten words! We found a fun way to learn and remember the words at home!!! Go to www.spellingcity.com . Click on the button that says “Find A List.” In the middle of the computer screen, type in the name Cynthia Eggers to search for a list by a teacher’s name. Click on a list you would like your child to work on. The games are so much fun! One game some of the children really like is called Hang Mouse! Have fun learning at home with your child!!

READING: Colors are everywhere as we begin our new reading theme! Thank you for having your child participate in the color of the day this week! This week we had a chance to brainstorm things that were red, yellow, blue, and purple. We enjoyed playing games about colors and singing songs, too! We are beginning to read sentences using some of our kindergarten words! Continue working on these words with your child at home: a, I, go, to, me, in, red

LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Gg” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, October 18. Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes. Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “G.”

MATH: This week we focused on counting and writing the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3. We loved getting our little chalkboards out to practice writing these numbers the correct way.

HANDWRITING: Forming the letters of the alphabet is so important in kindergarten! We have been making frog jump letters and corner starting letters using chalkboards, magna doodles, and mats. We are trying to enforce that all letters start at the top! The letters we are really good at making are F, E, D, P, B, R, N, and M. These are all frog jump letters! They start at the top and we have to jump back to the top to finish making the letter. Have your child show you how to make them at home!

SCIENCE: We are beginning to wrap up our tree unit! We have been investigating leaves and drawing trees in our science journal.

Thank you for attending conferences this week to discuss your child’s progress!
Remember: If you are eating lunch with your child, please wait by the lunchroom for your child. This will help the teacher to get the children ready for lunch much easier. Thank you!

We have had a terrific time with our senses! We didn’t realize how much we use our senses everyday! We read many stories about each sense, used our noses to smell different scents, tasted something bitter, sweet, sour, and salty, felt unfamiliar things in a secret bag, used our eyes to see bright items, and we listened to different sounds and tried to guess what they were. Ask your child what their favorite activity was this week!

LETTER OF THE WEEK: “Ff” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, October 11. Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes. Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “F.”

Remember: Conferences are next week. Be looking for a sheet coming home in the Thursday folder today, letting you know the day and time of your child’s conference. Thank you! We only have 20 minutes, so parents and teachers need to be focused on goals for your child during the first quarter.

Please make sure your child has gym shoes with them each gym day! Gym class has lots of running and sharp movement type activities. If the children are not wearing tennis shoes they run the risk of getting injured or falling and injuring another student.
