Kindergram November 18

Kindergram

READING:  We have been talking about our family and what makes up a family. We are all learning that every family is different. Ask your child what they have learned each day. We have also been working on reading the kindergarten words. We should know: I, a, go, to, me, in, red, see, we, my.

LETTER OF THE WEEK: “L” will be the letter of the week starting on Monday, November 29.  Please sit down with your child and discuss what sound this letter makes.  Have your child cut out one small picture from a magazine or newspaper that begins with the letter “L.”

MATH:  We are learning the numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.  We will practice writing our numbers, breaking the numbers up into parts like 2 and 4 make 6 and counting out counters to make our number of the day. We will be taking our test over numbers 5-10 and starting to compare which numbers are larger or smaller.

HANDWRITING:  We are still praciticing making frog jump letters and corner starting letters using chalkboards, magna doodles, and mats.  Remember:  all letters start at the top!  Keep working on F, E, D, P, B, R, N, and M.  We are getting better at making L, K, H, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z which are corner starting letters.

SCIENCE:  We are continuing to look at the four seasons of the year!  The colors of the leaves are beautiful!  We have been graphing the crazy weather this week, too.

Help Student Success: We use the word Quality Work at school.  When your child brings home a project question them on their work.  Ask them if they did quality work and have them explain why it is or is not quality work.

Please make sure your child has gym shoes with them each gym day!  Gym class has lots of running and sharp movement type activities.  If the children are not wearing tennis shoes they run the risk of getting injured or falling and injuring another student.

Dates to Remember:
·         November 24, 25, 26 - No School

Cold Weather- With cold weather and snow soon on its way please remember to mark all snow pants and coats.  It is amazing how many black size 6 snow pants show up during the winter. Keep practicing buttoning and zipping with your child.  We believe that it is important for children to dress themselves. Our recess time is limited to about 15 minutes, so practicing at home will help the children get outside in time for recess.

Please make sure that your child is not as school any sooner that 8:20 a.m.  There isn't a teacher on duty until then!  If the weather is too cold for the students to be outside or it is raining, a GREEN flag will be posted by the kindergarten door.  This green flag lets the children know it is all right for them to come into the building at the First grade double doors. Thank you!
